Netflix has signed on for a feature adaptation of the Sloclap video game Sifu, and it already has a writer attached.

According to Deadline, T.S. Nowlin—whose previous credits include The Maze Runner films, The Adam Project, and Pacific Rim: Uprisingwill pen the script. The project also has some action heavyweights behind it: It’s produced by 87Eleven, the production house of Chad Stahelski (John Wick 4), and Story Kitchen, the company behind films like Tomb Raider, Just Cause, and Streets of Rage.

Sloclap released the action beat ‘em up game in February 2022, and it has since sold approximately 22 million copies. Here’s the premise of the game, per Deadline:

Sifu follows the student of a martial arts school’s master (Sifu) as he seeks to avenge the murder of his mentor. The twist, however, is that thanks to a magical talisman, each time our hero dies, he’s resurrected, but the price paid is that he ages with every use. And should he become too old too fast, his death shall become permanent, and his quest unfulfilled.

Given the talent behind the adaptation and the source material, the movie is likely to be action-packed with some incredible fight scenes, assuming it makes it to production.

The project is still in its very early days—Nowlin still has to write the script!—so no news yet on casting or if/when the movie will make its way to Netflix. icon-paragraph-end
